  • Duration: 50 Minutes (approx.)
  • Location: Rottnest Island, WA

Take the trek up to Vlamingh Lookout for an uninterrupted upward view. Your guide may encourage students to lie down for an immersive experience, letting the only focus be the vast night sky above them. Stories swirl around the group, awakening characters like Orion and The Three Sisters, and highlighting orbiting man-made contributions. With more than 500,000 man-made objects above, a sighting is never off the cards.

“How can you find south using nothing but the Southern Cross? How were the constellations used as a seasonal calendar? This tour is not just about stars and space, students learn about culture, history, mythology, and even wayfinding. This tour is one of my favourites to guide.” Denia Daffen, RIA Voluntary Guide.

When the skies have other ideas, and decide to open, tours can retreat into a comfortable indoor setting. Here, the guides use presentations and interactive aids to maintain a connection between students and the sky.

Meeting Location: RVGA Information Booth
