Discover 200 years of environmental evolution on the island, from the effects of foreign flora to the importance of restoration. Your group will be guided through the Rottnest Island Nursery where up to 40,000 native seedlings propagate to maintain the island’s unique ecosystem.

Students will observe the full vegetation regeneration processes - from seed collection to treatment, storage, and propagation. As each seedling matures and is added to the awe-inspiring island landscape, the work of the nursery can be spotted everywhere.

There’s Samphire around the lakes, Spinifex in the dunes at Longreach Bay, Tea Tree along the bike path between The Basin and Longreach Bay, and Saltbush (rhagodia baccata) along Parker Point road.

Awaken the senses of even your most indoorsy of adventurers, with time spent deep in nature. This tour may even inspire the eco-innovators of a new generation.

Meeting Location: RVGA Information Booth

End Location: The tour concludes at the Island's plant nursery where students examine plant propagation and where they can complete an evaluation exercise.
